Kelim Rugs

This describes a carpet that is woven and not hand knotted, meaning a flat woven rug has no pile. The Persian kelim rugs is usually woven by the Quashgai and other nomadic Persian tribes. They traditionally used very bright and bold colours this being “an expression of their own personal style”, as one Quashgai woman told me. Depending on the tightness of the weave the more loose woven Kelims are often used as soft furnishings and not just as floor coverings. They are versatile and add a tribal look to any room.
